10-11 All-Stars post 2-2 tourney mark
SIERRA FOOTHILLS LITTLE LEAGUE
Sierra Foothills Little League?s 10-11-year-old All-Stars ran out of steam in District 11 play as the local All-Stars were eliminated in a district-wide tournament by Lincoln, 10-0, last Friday in Penn Valley. The SFLL team posted a 2-2 tournament record and notched a pair of wins over Area II rivals Bear River and Grass Valley. Here?s a recap of the 10-11?s tourney games: Auburn 10, SFLL 4 ? In a game that was tied 4-4 after six innings, the two teams went three extra frames before Auburn broke the game open in the ninth for the extra inning win. SFLL was sparked by great pitching from Rogan Swan and Dawson Hurst. The top hitters were Hurst and Shane Beller. SFLL 6, Bear River 1 ? Excellent moundwork from Samm Smith and Michael Stuck helped SFLL shut down Bear River. Hurst starred at the plate with three hits, while Will Vereken, Nolan Lewis and Max Dwyer all added a pair. Topping the team defense were strong efforts from Colton Reeves, John McCann and Jacob "Nuggett" Lahaie. SFLL 11, Grass Valley 4 ? In a five-inning walk-off win, great pitching from starter Alex Weir and closer Evan Patrick closed out Grass Valley. Lincoln 10, SFLL 0 ? Solid team effort in an elimination loss included pitching from Lewis and Hurst. Great defensive plays were turned in by Vereyken with an outfield assist and a great catch, while Beller also had a nice catch.
