Arrest after dog decapitation
An Auburn man is alleged by authorities to have decapitated his family’s dog.
Arrested Thursday on suspicion of animal cruelty, 31-year old Christopher Michael Dougherty is alleged to have killed a three-year-old Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix named Milo.
The Sheriff’s Office said Dougherty admitted to family members he had killed the dog.
“When deputies arrived at the Auburn home, they found Dougherty with blood on his clothes and in possession of a bloody knife with what appeared to be white dog hair attached,” the Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.
A search initially couldn’t find the body of the dead dog but a missing rug led to a garbage can, where the carpet and the missing canine were located.
The pet was returned to the family in a box, so the family would not have to see the headless body of the dog, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Dougherty remained in jail today, with bail set at $100,000.
