39 C.O.R.E. graduates earn diplomas

Community Options for Resources in Education ? the C.O.R.E Placer Charter School ? has celebrated the 39 members of the class of 2012 at commencement exercises. Over 350 family and friends were in attendance when graduation was held June 2 at Auburn Grace Community Church. The afternoon event included musical performances by teacher Orlando Morazon playing ?Pomp and Circumstance,? student Jessica Liu singing ?The Star Spangled Banner,? as well as a piano piece by student Rochelle Mercado and a cello performance by valedictorian Conner Meggs. The salutatorian address was given by Amber Sluis. Reinett Senum, Nevada City councilwoman and former mayor, was the keynote speaker. Each student was introduced by a teacher who read a paragraph describing the student?s plans after high school and thanked key people in their lives. C.O.R.E. Placer is an independent study, personalized learning charter school located in Colfax where students, teachers and parents work together to design and implement the student?s own unique educational plan. ?
