Barbara Gerletti-Weiss and Mary Walker, American Association of University Women (AAUW) -Auburn, presented 17 new books to the E.V. Cain Middle School library in February.

The Auburn Branch’s “Books for Books” program, raises funds by selling gently used books which have been donated by branch members. The funds raised are used to purchase books or supplies for local school libraries or literacy programs.

The books were chosen from the library’s wish list, which included books about accomplished and interesting women and girls, as well as popular fiction. The titles included

“Strong is the New Pretty: A Celebration of Girls Being Themselves”; “Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World”; “Girls Think of Everything: Stories of Ingenious Inventions by Women”; and “Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl.”

The Auburn Branch donated the books to Jason Lee, librarian at E.V. Cain.

“I’m delighted to have these new books for the library, and I am especially pleased that the donation came from AAUW,” said Lee.

Lee’s grandmother, Katherine Lee, was a charter member of the Auburn branch and its first president.
