Placer High students win awards for music
Placer High School music students competed in the Heritage Music Festival in San Diego and came home big winners.
Of the 117 students who went, the groups who competed were the jazz band, concert band, wind ensemble, concert choir, chamber choir. The competition took place April 19 through 22.
And the winners are: Concert Choir — Silver Award and second place; Chamber Choir — Silver Award; Jazz Band — Gold Award and first place; Wind Ensemble — Gold Award and second place; Concert Band — Silver Award; Outstanding Band Program (amongst all schools competing); Outstanding Band (highest score on instrumental side of all schools competing); Adjudicators Award — Wind Ensemble; Maestro Award for individual achievement: Zane Mitsuda (trumpet), Sydney Haupt (jazz flute), and Olivia Johnson (jazz guitar).
Placer High Music also brought home awards at the Reno Jazz Festival, April 27 through 29. Awards were given to the group for Reno Jazz Fifth Place in “B” Division with a “Superior” rating, plus individual musicianship awards to Zane Mitsuda, Matthew Yee, and Sydney Haupt.
Placer High musicians will perform locally at their summer concert, 7:30 p.m. May 9 at the Placer Auditorium. Admission is free with performances by the jazz band, concert band, wind ensemble, concert choir, chamber choir.
