Welcome Carol Guild as your new Colfax Record editor

I was excited when I temporarily became the Colfax record editor in fall 2015. It was like returning home because I had been editor here from 2005 to 2007.

On my first month back two years ago, I was impressed to see Colfax residents, such as Jim Bowers, Foxey McCleary, Beth Murphy and Tony Hesch still volunteering to make their city such a great place to call home.

And in 2007, projects such as building a skate park were just a dream by a few residents and the abandoned Colfax Hotel was a downtown eyesore.

Today, the skate park project is a reality.

And although the Colfax Hotel owners and the city of Colfax staff currently don’t see eye-to-eye, at least everyone wants to see the hotel be repaired and then reopened.

I’m proud to watch residents and city staff work together to make Colfax one of the best places to live in Northern California while retaining the small hometown atmosphere. But my office is at Gold Country Media’s Lincoln office and Colfax readers deserve a staff just minutes away from them.

So starting July 12, another Carol, Carol Guild, is lucky to become the new editor. Stationed in Auburn, she is an accomplished and dedicated editor and one of my favorite colleagues.

And a new reporter, Michael Rohm, will take over from reporters Carol Percy and Steve Archer. Michael was just hired as the general assignment reporter for the Colfax Record and the Auburn Journal. He lives in the Gold Run area so readers have someone who lives in the community and experiences the same issues as they do.

You’ll still have the awesome Gloria Young, who is an excellent copy editor and paginator. Gloria has been at this position for years so she is very knowledgeable about anything associated with Colfax.

You’re in great hands with Carol G., Michael and Gloria.

Carol G’s email (carolg@goldcountrymedia.com) is one letter different from mine. If I get emails intended for her, I will send them along. In case you want to talk directly to Carol G, her phone number is 530-852-0230.

It has been my pleasure to serve as Colfax record editor. I’m glad that Carol G, in our every-other-day talks, will fill me in on your news. I hope our paths cross again.
