Partial ID on body found in American RiverBy: Gus Thomson, Reporter/Columnist
Authorities have released some identifying information on a body found in the American River but are withholding a name until next of kin can be notified.
The body was discovered Friday afternoon in the north fork American River in the canyon below Colfax by hikers traveling along the lower level of the Stevens Trail. The trail leads down to the river’s edge.
The body was recovered by divers late Friday and is now with Placer County coroner. The Coroner’s Office released some information today, saying the body is of a male born in 1970.
An autopsy is to take place but had not been performed as of this afternoon, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dena Erwin said.
Identification was made through fingerprints because there was no identifying information with the body. The man’s family had not been located, she said.
