Alta-Dutch Flat School District celebrates graduates

Ten students received their eighth-grade diplomas from the Alta-Dutch Flat Elementary School District during ceremonies held June 3 at the Alta school. The district also has a school in Emigrant Gap. Advancing to ninth grade are James Burton, Destinee Ellis, Connor Hanley, David Hubbard, Travis Jackson, Kassidy Jones, Adam Ornellas, Alyssa Sellers, Samantha Snyder and Sarah Trejo. Class valenditorian was Kassidy Jones, and Samantha Snyder was the salutatorian. Awards and recognition went to Kassidy Jones, Presidential Award for Academic Excellence; Samantha Snyder, Soroptimist International Award; Conner Hanley and Kassidy Jones, American Legion Award; A.J. Ornellas Jr ., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2003 and Ladies Auxiliary; Destinee Ellis, Oddfellows Lodge Award; Sarah Trejo, Faculty and Board of Trustees Award; James Burton, Educational Achievement Award; David Hubbard, Golden Rule Award; and Alyssa Sellers and Travis Jackson, Spirit Store Award. Half the students – Sarah Trejo, Samantha Snyder, David Hubbard, Connor Hanley and James Burton – were continuously enrolled at the school since kindergarten and were recognized with a Kindergarten Survival Award. The district serves 120 students – in grades kindergarten through eighth – from Gold Run, Dutch Flat, Alta, Emigrant Gap, Blue Canyon and neighboring areas. Most Alta-Dutch Flat School and Emigrant Gap School graduating eighth-graders continue their education at Colfax High School. – Staff report
