The Placer County District Attorney’s Office is continuing its investigation into a crash Thursday in Applegate that killed three men and could result in drunken driving charges. The 17-year-old driver of the car involved in the single-vehicle crash was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The juvenile male – who authorities aren’t releasing the name of – also faces three manslaughter charges. Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Wilson said Tuesday that the office is making no comments on the case at this time. “Investigation into the case is ongoing,” Wilson said. “At this point, it would be inappropriate to comment on the case until we’re ethically and legally able to do so.” The accident, which occurred near the rural Boole Road-Applegate Road turn, killed Lukas Edward Warren, 21, of Meadow Vista, Daniel Silverman, 31, of Meadow Vista and 21-year-old Christian Mayorga of Auburn. A fifth vehicle occupant – a 17-year-old girl from Eugene, Ore. – was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with moderate injuries. Because of her age and law-enforcement restrictions on providing identification of juvenile accident victims, the hospital, in turn, cannot give out medical-status information because of federal health-privacy restrictions. – Gus Thomson
