Artists think 'Outside the Box'

-A +A
Colfax artist John Potter and Kurt Barton of Meadow Vista are two of the artists who have their work on exhibit during PlacerArts? 5th Annual Outside the Box fundraiser. The show, which benefits PlacerArts? public programs, ends with a live auction gala at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Arts Building, 808 Lincoln Way, in Auburn. Each piece of art in the Outside the Box show is inspired by a plain wooden box. One hundred artists were given a deconstructed wooden box in February and two months to create a work of art. Potter?s ?Parisian Stroll? reflects his fondness for Paris as one of the great cities of the world for artists. ?Adding a 1890s twist harkens back to days of wonderment as the industrial revolution begins and the world begins to shrink?, Potter said. Kurt Barton ?Side Dish,? depicts raw wood pieces going into a hand grinder mounted to a vintage table, and food to feed the soul (art) coming out the other side. All the boxes may be viewed by clicking on the link in the Outside the Box calendar listing on PlacerArts? home page, PlacerArts.org.
