Bear River completes unbeaten run at Tahoe tournament

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Senior guard Garrett Barbic had five 3-pointers among his team-high 23 points on Saturday as the Bear River High boys basketball team topped North Valley 71-65 at the South Lake Tahoe Viking Classic to complete a 3-0 run at the tournament. Senior guard Patrick Scott had 18 points and seven rebounds on Saturday. Junior guard Michael Spencer chipped in with 10 points. On Friday, Bear River pounded Soquel 58-28. Scott poured in 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added four assists and four steals. Barbic scored 12 in the victory. Berkeley 76, Colfax 62 at Sacramento — The Falcons (3-3) led 56-53 going into the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell in Saturday’s Hiram Johnson Warrior Classic title game. “We had three starters foul out, and their pressure kind of got to us,” Colfax coach Ron Pucci said. Junior forward Joey Jergo led the Falcons with 23 points. Senior guard Jeff Divine added 13, and senior center Ethan Guiles pulled down 11 rebounds. Foothill of Palo Cedro 88, Placer 59 at Redding — Senior center Jeff Patton had 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Hillmen (1-3) Saturday at the Harlan Carter Tournament. Junior forward Conrad Harder finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for Placer. Junior point guard Michael Jensen dished out five assists and had four steals in addition to scoring eight points. Foresthill 57, Stockton Christian 47 at Yuba City — Seniors Pliny Murphy and Sean O’Hagan scored 24 and 11 points, respectively, as the Wildfires (1-2) won their final game of the Faith Christian Tournament on Saturday. Murphy and fellow senior guard Shane Gray netted 18 points each in Foresthill’s 64-59 loss to East Nicolaus on Friday. The Wildfires were beaten on a last-second 3-pointer in their tournament opener on Thursday, falling to host Faith Christian 44-41.
