Boys too much for Argo, 80-42
The Colfax High boys varsity basketball team came out running and never looked back Tuesday night in a non-league game against visiting Argonaut of Jackson.
Playing in the school’s old gym as part of “Retro Night”, the Falcons raced out to a lead of 27-9 after a quarter and ended up posting a lopsided 80-42 victory.
“We came out and kind of jumped on them early and that set the tone,” said Colfax coach Mike O’Connell whose Falcons improved to 6-2 on the season.
Justin Witt pumped home 15 points and came up with six steals to spark the Falcons. Chase Mosier, Joey Jergo and Kyle Greer all followed with nine points apiece.
Colfax opens action tonight in the Rosemont Tournament against Christian Brothers at 6:30 p.m.
In the JV game, Colfax improved to 6-3 with a 42-31 win over the Mustangs. Luke Beninga tallied 20 points to lead the Falcons who enjoyed a 25-8 margin at halftime.
Also scoring for the Falcons were Wil Buell with seven points, Paul Ramseth and Austin Young with six each and Roger Lillie with three.
Woodcreek 66, Colfax Lady Falcons 50 — The Colfax girls stayed close to the T-Wolves for three quarters but ran out of gas in the fourth stanza of the non-league road loss.
Colfax trailed just 32-31 at halftime and 49-42 going into the final stanza before running out of steam in the final eight minutes.
Colfax, which plays Rio Americano at 3:30 p.m. today in the opening round of the Del Oro Lady Eagle Invitational, was led by Audrey Lewis’ 12 points and eight each from Hailey Biles, April Littlejohn and Michelle Walker. The scoring was rounded out by Kaci Capuchino who scored six, Cassandra Campbell three and Erica Heikila two.
In JV action, Colfax fell to Woodcreek, 50-31. Cassy Harrison’s six points topped the Lady Falcons who play Casa Roble today at 6:30 p.m. in the Del Oro girls JV tournament.
