I was very surprised by the letter in the Colfax Record on Sept. 13, 2012 by Deanna Anderson. She discusses how she think businesses should operate in today's tough economic times; she clearly does not understand what Basement Wines and Main Street Pizza provides for the local Colfax community and the surrounding area. Where most businesses in Colfax either have went out of business or were forced to close.
The owners of Basement Wines and Main Street Pizza did not take the easy way out in this prolonged economic down turn but they instead took a huge gamble and actually consolidated their two businesses to purchase a building in Colfax. They took this action since the two buildings they were leasing had gone into foreclosure. Instead of taking their money and running out of Colfax they chose to invest more into the Colfax community and make a commitment by buying one of the buildings.
The outcomes of this decision to purchase a building and keep their businesses in Colfax are as follows. There is not another empty storefront on Main Street, many of the employees are still employed, and Colfax has another permanent business moving forward.
