Campbell steps down from Lady Falcons hoop post
The Colfax High girls basketball program has hung out the "help wanted" sign.
Dave Campbell, who in his four seasons as Colfax High's head varsity girls basketball coach led the Lady Falcons to three Pioneer Valley League championships and three consecutive trips to the CIF Northern California regionals, has turned in his resignation.
"My son is going to be a senior next year and I want to be there and watch him play," said Campbell about stepping down from his position. "When I took the job four years ago the Colfax administration knew I wasn't in this for the long haul."
Colfax High athletic director Rob Hitchcock acknowledged that Campbell did tender his resignation and applauded the ex-Colfax High coach for a job well done.
"Dave stepped in and did a great job for us," said Hitchcock. "He was a positive plus for our program."
Under Campbell, a 1983 Colfax High graduate, the Lady Falcons went 80-43 and won or shared the last three PVL titles. In the last three seasons, his teams qualified for the CIF Northern California regional tournament after the Lady Falcons had not reached that level of the postseason since 2006.
Prior to taking the varsity post at Colfax in 2010, Campbell had coached the Colfax JV team for six seasons.
"I'm really going to miss the girls and parents," said Campbell. "What a great group we've had."
Hitchcock noted that a search for a successor is already underway.
