Colfax Girls, Boys open playoffs next week at home
Let the second season begin.
Colfax High's boys and girls basketball teams received good news Wednesday when the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section unveiled its 2013 Div. IV playoff brackets.
Both the Falcons boys and girls received high seeds from the tournament committee and will open the playoffs with home games next week - and with wins - could both host second round contests.
The playoff action at Colfax will get underway Tuesday night with Colfax's girls team playing at 7 p.m. against the winner of a Friday "out-bracket" game between No. 18 San Juan and No. 15 Los Banos. The Lady Falcons, at 18-9, are the Div. IV No. 2 seed behind No. 1 seed Bear River.
If Colfax's girls can win their first round game, they would be in line to host a quarter-final game on Thur. Feb. 21 againsty the survivor of No. 7 Calaveras and No. 10 Liberty Ranch. Quarter-final winners then advance to Tokay High in Lodi for the semi-final round, Feb. 27.
For Colfax's boys, fresh off winning the Pioneer Valley League championship Tuesday night with their 51-46 win over Lincoln, the Falcons grabbed he Div. IV No. 1 seed and will play host to Hughson next Wednesday night, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in their first round game.
The meeting between the Falcons and Huskies will mark the first time the two schools have played since Colfax defeated Hughson, 77-75, in a 1999 quarter-final game played in Colfax. In that game, the Falcons rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to pull out the thrilling last second win.
If Colfax can survive its first round game, the Falcons would play host to a second round test on Feb. 22 against either No. 8 West Campus (15-12) or No. 9 Escalon (16-11).
The semi-final round will then shift on Wednesday, Feb. 2,7 to Tokay High School in Lodi. Four Div. IV playoff games – two girls and two boys – will be played that day with game times starting at 4, 5:30, 7:30 and 9 p.m.
The Div. IV championship games will be played on Saturday, March 2, at Sleep Train arena with the girls tipping off at 11:30 a.m. and the boys playing at 3 p.m.
Special playoff ticket prices will be in effect with home site games charging $8 for adults and $5 for students. For games at Tokay High, the ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Ticket prices at Sleep Train are $17 for adults and $8 for students.
