Colfax High School will be represented by a pair of doubles teams at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section co-ed tennis tournament that will be played today and tomorrow at Oak Park in Stockton. Leading the way for the Falcons will be the girls doubles team of Aspen Fairchild and Justine Hanson. The Colfax duo teamed to sweep through three straight foes and claim the Pioneer Valley League girls doubles championship at last week?s championship tournament held in Auburn. ?They played great,? said Colfax coach Paul Phillips about the performance turned in by Fairchild who is a sophomore and Hanson who is a freshman. ?They played beyond their years.? Fairchild and Hanson opened the PVL tournament with a bye before downing Huong Huyanh and Lilly Lee of Foothill, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round. The Colfax pair then defeated Center?s Christy Almendra and Alina Aktar, 6-1, 6-1, in the semi-finals. The Colfax duo followed up by topping the Bear River senior tandem of Kirsten Malo and Shelby Carrow 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the PVL title match. Also competing in this week?s tournament will be the mixed doubles team of Chris Harshman and Rachel Fischer, who entered last week?s PVL tourney unseeded but put forth a runner-up finish. The Harshman-Fischer team opened the tourney with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Center?s Aaron Machel and Gralena Gurtovenko before downing Lincoln?s Elizabeth Maganya and Isaac Titch, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round. In the semi-finals, the Colfax team stopped Bear River?s Jordan Seely and Sam Betchler, 6-3, 6-2, before falling to Placer?s Lindsay Holden and Kyle Fontz in the finals, 6-4, 6-1.
