Colfax storms to another quick sweep
It didn’t take the Colfax High volleyball team long to right the ship after a rough loss to Placer last week in Pioneer Valley League action.
The Falcons swept Lincoln Wednesday in Colfax 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 after taking care of Bear River in three games on Monday.
Against the Zebras, senior Erica Heikila was all over the court with 13 kills, three aces, two blocks and 13 points served. Junior Iona Lofrano added 12 kills and two blocks while Haley Biles dished out 33 assists.
Samantha Hall led Colfax at the service line with 13 points, including four aces. Kelly Harris, Kelsey Whittet and Maggie Aubuchon chipped in with two kills each for the Falcons (4-1 PVL, 15-7 overall).
Colfax swept Bear River Monday at Lake of the Pines, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18. Ashley Scott sparked the defense with 14 digs while Heikila had nine kills and nine digs. Lofrano added eight kills while Whittet and Kristi McCallister added four each. Kassidy Gutierrez served up 11 points and Hall was perfect on the service line. Biles passed out 33 assists.
Placer 3, Foothill 0 — The Hillgals had no trouble at Earl Crabbe Gym as senior Nichole Johnston hustled for 12 digs and senior Sarah Francis served up five aces.
Michaela Leonard pounded 11 kills and added nine assists for Placer (5-0 PVL, 10-5), which tuned up for this weekend’s CIVT Tournament in Roseville.
Bear River 3, Center 0 at Sacramento — The Bruins busted out of a two-match losing streak with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-8 romp over the Cougars on the road.
Junior Katie Tomkievicz led the Bruins with 12 kills, three blocks and six digs.
Sara Schell and Jess Mastrella each served four aces and Schell added eight kills.
Sophomore Kaya Johnson dished out 19 assists and Dakota Andrews added seven as Bear River improved to 22-7 overall and 3-2 in the PVL.
