Colfax team makes splash, sweeps at Foothill meet
Colfax High’s swim team splashed their way past Foothill Friday for a pair of Pioneer Valley League wins. Swimming at the Auburn Recreation District pool in Auburn, the Falcons won the boys division 90-40 and also swept their way past the Foothill girls, 100-20.
In an earlier meet against Placer, Colfax’s boys won eight of the 11 events in the meet but couldn’t get the win because of their lack of depth.
“We have some very good individuals on both the boys and girls teams,” said Colfax coach Fred Tuttle. “But we don’t have the numbers to get the seconds and third which are also important.”
In the win against Foothill, Colfax’s boys were sparked by Jack Baldoni, Preston Tuttle, Tommy Granite, Kellen Giulani and Nick Baldoni, all who had hands in two wins apiece for the Falcons.
Jack Baldoni, who over the spring break trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, has already set two school records this season. One came in the 50 freestyle (21.7) and the other in the 100 freestyle (47.8).
Colfax’s girls were led by Amber Alexander, Kylie Kirkland, Rebecca Neilsen and Kaily Wright. Alexander won the 100 and 200 freestyle and swam on two relays, while Wright took the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Colfax swims against Center on Friday at Rio Linda High then returns to Rio Linda on Saturday for the Rio Linda Relays.
