Del Oro, Colfax rally for Arnett JV wins

Del Oro High’s junior varsity boys basketball team trailed by six points at halftime Monday before using a big third quarter to rally for an eventual 69-52 win over Del Campo in the opening round of the Kendall Arnett JV Tournament. The Golden Eagles outscored the Cougars 21-12 in the decisive third quarter. Freshman Taylor Bergthold sparked Del Oro with 21 points. Kyle Russell added 15, and Jordan Broyles added 12. Colfax 58 Nevada Union 46 – Chase Mosier led Colfax with 24 points, 21 of which came in the second half, and was 12-of-13 from the foul stripe as the Falcons rallied past the Miners. The Falcons trailed 23-21 at halftime but led 33-31 in the third period when Mosier was fouled on a shot attempt. After Nevada Union was hit with a technical foul following the call, Mosier made all four free throws and then scored on the ensuing in-bounds possession to boost Colfax’s advantage to 39-31. Nevada Union never got closer than six points the rest of the way. Tom Baldoni finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Colfax. Austin Brown netted seven points. Placer 65, Mira Loma 54 – Sophomore guard Josh Turney scored 24 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Hillmen (3-7) reached the tournament semifinals. Placer will face Bear River, which defeated San Juan, today. The Bear River-San Juan score was unavailable.
