Ryan Salmonson and Justin Witt, a pair of seniors who were instrumental in helping the Colfax High boys basketball team capture this past season’s Pioneer Valley league championship, head the selections to the PVL’s all-league team which was recently selected by the league’s coaches. Salmonson, a 6-9 pivot, was Colfax’s leading scorer this season as he tallied 14.4 points a game while shooting 55 per cent from the field. Witt, meanwhile, played forward and scored at a 12.4 points per game clip along with being a team leader in the rebounding and assists department. The two Falcons were joined on the all-league first team by Jacob Courage and Steven Bobyk of Lincoln, Michael Jensen and Josh Klem of Placer, Cody Borst of Whitney, Joe Visman and Matt Winterer of El Dorado and Alex Rossi of Mesa Verde. Keenan Hale of Lincoln, who led the PVL in scoring with a 20.2 points per game average, was named as the league’s Most Valuable Player. Colfax coach Mike O’Connell was also named as the PVL’s “Coach of the Year” after directing the Falcons to an 11-1 league season and an overall season mark of 27-6. O’Connell was the PVL’s “Coach of the Year” in 2003 while the head coach at Lincoln. Colfax’s Kyle Greer was tagged to the all-PVL second team along with Lawrence Hall of Mesa Verde, Justin Gavard of El Dorado, Darren Centi and James Taber of Placer, Dusty Foster of Lincoln, Eric Gee and Brendan McHue of Whitney and Zach Welz, Joey Jewett and Jordan Beskeen of Bear River.
