E-waste fundraiser is Saturday at Roy Toms Plaza
The electronic waste fundraiser traditionally held during the Spring Green Festival by the Soroptimist Club of Colfax has not only been passed on to the Colfax Elementary School-APT, but it has a new date.
The free e-waste collection drive takes places from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Roy Toms Plaza. According to Karen Sheets, of the Association of Parent & Teachers, the fundraiser will help fund Colfax Elementary school events and activities as well as special projects. “It would help with books fairs, bringing assemblies to the school, field trips, sports programs, and providing books or other items (teachers need) for their classrooms,” Sheets said.
The group is partnering with CEAR – California Electronic Asset Recovery – to recycle the e-waste. CEAR provides the bins that are weighed in order to reimburse the Colfax Elementary School-APT for the number of pounds of e-waste donated.
Items accepted will include electronic and office equipment, small household appliances, plus speakers, keyboards, VCRs, telephones and digital cameras. Not accepted will be large household appliances – such as stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, and washers and dryers – and pesticides, paint, used oil, cleaning supplies, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and tires. According to CEAR, the shred all computer hard drives at their securely monitored facility.
“It’s a great time to spring clean and get rid of some of that stuff that has been sitting around,” Sheets said. “We’re also picking up for people this year.”
