Falcons JVs go after league title Friday

-A +A
The Pioneer Valley League JV football championship will be on the line Friday night at Lake of the Pines when Colfax’s Falcons take on Bear River’s Bruins with kickoff set for 5:15 p.m. The Falcons and Bruins will both take identical 4-0 PVL records with them into the season finale. Colfax kept its league record perfect with a 21-0 shutout win over Lincoln last Friday while Bear River defeated Foothill, 35-8. Colfax, now 8-1 on the season, was sparked last week by fine defensive play from Jack Baldoni and Austin Ames. On offense, Tanner Kane rushed 16 times for 73 yards and scored on a touchdown run of 16 yards. Quarterback Michael Wilson was 13 of 22 through the air for 144 yards and two scores, one to Chas Reisinger and the other to Kyle Bryant. Spikers await playoff seedings After missing out on a shot to get a piece of the Pioneer Valley League title, the Colfax girls volleyball team will now turn its attention to the upcoming CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs that begin next Tuesday. Colfax ventured to Bear River last Wednesday with a chance of upending the Bruins and forcing a three-way tie at the top of the PVL along with Placer. However, the hosts prevailed 26-24, 25-17, 12-25, 25-23. Colfax dropped to 6-3 in PVL play and was slated to host Lincoln in a regular season-ending match yesterday. The Lady Falcons will most likely open next week’s playoffs with a first-round road match. Frosh Fall to Zebras, 14-13 Colfax High’s frosh football team held the lead last Thursday night for three-and-a-half quarters before visiting Lincoln scored a touchdown and ensuing two-point conversion to squeak out a 14-13 win over the Falcons at Marson Stadium. Colfax had taken an early 13-0 lead after touchdowns from Dalton Bannister and Logan Hurst, but the Zebras rallied to close the gap to 13-6 just before halftime. The game was then a standoff for much of the second half before the Zebras used some good field position for the game-winning scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Colfax, 7-2 overall on the season, will complete its schedule today at Bear River starting at 5:30 p.m.
