COLFAX – The Colfax High football team didn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat here Friday night for Pioneer Valley League newcomer Center. Making their PVL debut, the Cougars from North Highlands ran into an aroused bunch of Falcons and watched as the hosts celebrated homecoming with a lopsided ,35-0 victory. The Falcons, 4-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in PVL play, scored the first three times they touched the ball and built a commanding 35-0 lead by halftime to completely throttle the visitors now 1-5 and 0-1. “We came out with a lot of intensity tonight and were very focused,” said Colfax coach Tony Martello. “We wanted to make sure we took care of ourselves tonight.” Senior fullback Tom Baldoni was a catalyst in helping the Falcons break the game open as he carried the ball 19 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns – in the first half. Baldoni finished the game with 217 yards on 24 carries and plenty of help from teammate Connor Brown who added 109 more yards on 20 carries. All total, Colfax finished the game with 452 yards of total offense. Baldoni scored the first two touchdowns of the contest for the Falcons on runs on seven and six yards. Colfax’s second score came after an Austin Fitzhugh fumble recovery at the Center 33-yard line. Colfax extended its lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter when quarterback Austin Young connected with Josh Moreno on a four-yard touchdown pass. After a four-yard scoring plunge by Baldoni with 4:49 left in the half made it 28-0 Colfax, the Falcons increased their margin to 35-0 at halftime when Young found Chase Mosier on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Young finished the game by hitting on 9 of 14 passes for two touchdowns. Colfax will travel to Foothill next Friday night. Center JV 7 Colfax 6 – Center held off a last ditch Colfax scoring bid inside the 10-yard line to hold off the Falcons (3-3).
