Fire safety and sustainability will be the topic of a community conversation scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Sierra Vista Community Center, 55 School St. After short presentations by the Sierra Conservancy on regional biomass strategies and a quick overview of Sierra Vista's proposal to use a biomass burner for heating and possibly electricity generation, the community will be invited to engage in an open forum. The question for discussion will be: how can the Colfax area manage fire safety and become self-sufficient in energy production in a sustainable way? The forum is being sponsored by PlacerSustain in cooperation with Sierra Vista Center. An informal discussion with members of Placer Sustain will begin at 5:30 p.m. Chips, salsa, vegies and dips will be provided for this informal portion of the meeting. For more information, call Otis Wollan at 320-6841. PlacerSustain is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create a local sustainable community less dependent on county or federal sources to meet our needs. Biomass burners turn brush, removed for fire safety, and other bio fuel into heat and electricity.
