Colfax’s JV girls basketball team is off to a 5-1 season start after the Lady Falcons picked up two non-league wins last week and also finished second at the Roseville JV tournament. Colfax, which opened its season with a win Tuesday at Del Oro, bounced back on Wednesday with a 51-28 win over Roseville as Lindsay Biles scored 12 points and Taylor Avila nine for the winners. In its tourney opener at Roseville, the Lady Falcons opened with an impressive 41-30 victory over Div. III power Sacramento High. Avila led the Lady Falcons with 11 points, while Kelsey Larson added nine. Colfax led after a low-scoring first half, 14-11. The Lady Falcons then found themselves matched up against Roseville for the second time within four days and Colfax responded with a 46-22 verdict over the Tigers. Kylie Kirkland’s 16 points, Avila with 10 and Biles with eight led the victory. The Lady Falcons found themselves matched up against a talented Oak Ridge team in the finals, and despite having some good moments in the first half, Colfax fell in the finals, 71-49. Top scorers for the Lady Falcons were Kirkland with 16 points and Maddie Ittner with 12. Both Kirkland and Avila from Colfax were named to the all-tournament team for their fine efforts in the three games. Colfax will vie in the Oroville JV Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Next week, Colfax visits Monterey Trail on Monday and then returns home on Tuesday to play Casa Roble at 5:30 p.m.
