Hall of Fame induction ceremony set for Saturday

The 46th annual Colfax Recreation Association?s Men?s Softball Classic gets underway tonight with a doubleheader at Living War Memorial Park. Action continues with games on Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. The championship game is scheduled for 3;30 p.m. Sunday. A special tournament Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday at 7;30 p.m. The following players will be honored: Skip Cassulo ? Longtime power hitting third baseman for SPD Markets. Helped lead Skippy?s Dancing Bears to 1986 tourney finals. Was ?pick-up? player for Fireballs to 1986 ASA Nationals in Olympia, Washington. Jerry Rich ? Knuckle-balling ace hurler for Chuck?s Savin Sams in the 1970s. Also teamed with Ray Holcomb to form talented 1-2 pitching punch for Cal-Farm Insurance in the 1970s. Dave O?Hara, Chili Davis ? Both of these Sonoma-bred fast pitch junkies have played in over 20 Colfax Classic affairs. O?Hara has over 30 career tourney mound wins while Davis has been solid in the field and at the plate. Bob Woods ? Veteran Colfax chucker who over the years in the tournament has thrown for Rocklin Hydraulics, the Sonics, Les Eva All-Stars, Duck Inn and OK Pool Hall. Mike Reid, Rod Mathisen ? Former standouts for Reno Toyota and the Reno Raiders. Reid was a power hitting first baseman and solid hurler while Mathisen used his speed and quickness to cover all facets of play at shortstop. Lloyd Periera ? Longtime ?jack of all trades? tourney fixture. Mike ?Otto? Thill ? The pride of Florence, Mont. ?Otto? was the mound ace for the Delta Rebels, Foster Farms, Storer Coachways and earned several tourney mound wins as a ?pick up? chucker for the Toms Sierra Fireballs. Mike Claxton ? Former catcher and infielder for Larry?s Mt. View Club and Colfax Mt. Sports, Claxton join his older brothers Trav and Ken in the HOF. Troy Dutra ? Longtime utility player from Grass Valley, Dutra has plied his trade for several tournament teams through the years. Paul Carlton ? Former pitching ace, Carlton directed the River City Rockers and J&P Sportsman to three tournament championships. Larry Machado, Joel Manfredi ? Solid 1-2 duo for Italian Athletic Club of Stockton that captured three tourney crowns in the 2000s. Both Machado and Manfredi are former tourney MVPs. Ronnie Blaine, Daryl Banks ? Blaine was a standout shortstop and hurler and Banks patrolled centerfield for the Neilsen Realty Gamblers. Bruce Porter, Billy Davis ? Veteran pair from Grass Valley are still playing. Both have earned numerous all-tourney honors. Darrin Ladd ? Long ball hitting infielder for the Toms Sierra Fireballs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Dave Bostick ? (posthumously) ? Bostick, who passed away last year, was an all-tourney selection on five different teams that played in the Colfax classic.
