Hillmen vanquish Mavericks

BOYS BASKETBALL: Klem has 23 points and 13 rebounds in victory; Colfax stays unbeaten in PVL play

Seniors Josh Klem and James Taber each posted double-doubles for the Placer High boys basketball team Wednesday night in its 76-44 victory over host Mesa Verde in Citrus Heights. Klem, a forward, led the Hillmen in scoring with 23 points and rebounds with 13. Taber, the Hillmen’s center, scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Guards Michael Jensen and Darren Centi combined for 11 assists for Placer (10-7, 2-0 Pioneer Valley League). Jensen, a senior, also netted 15 points, while Centi tossed in nine. Placer’s junior varsity squad lost its game 53-51, while the Hillman freshmen won 55-47. Colfax 77, El Dorado 61 at Colfax — Senior center Ryan Salmonson netted a team-best 24 points as the Falcons won a matchup of unbeaten PVL teams on Wednesday. Senior guards Kyle Greer and Justin Witt scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for Colfax (15-3, 3-0 PVL). Each also had eight rebounds, as did senior forward Joey Jergo. The Falcons outscored the Cougars 29-9 in the third quarter to blow the game open. “It was a big matchup,” Colfax coach Mike O’Connell said. “Both teams were 2-0 going in, and we were fortunate to come away with a good win.” Colfax’s JV team won 66-50, while the Falcon freshmen lost 52-42. Forest Lake Christian 66, Delta 56 at Clarksburg — Senior forward Josh Ritchart scored a team-high 15 points Tuesday night, leading a balanced scoring attack as the Falcons improved to .500 on the season and got their first league win. Guards Jason Camacho and Randy Van Winkle had 13 points apiece for Forest Lake (7-7, 1-2 Central Valley Christian League). Senior forward Garrett Boatman added 11 points.
