Celebration planned Oct. 1-2
-A +A
A historic train is coming to town for Railroad Days, which on Oct. 1 and 2 will celebrate Colfax’s contribution to the building of the First Transcontinental Railroad in America. The Placer Sierra Railroad Heritage Society has received approval from Union Pacific Railroad for the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola to bring a train to Union Pacific’s railroad yard in Colfax for public viewing, according to Malcolm Frost, railroad heritage society spokesman. The train consists of a number of locomotives in historic Western Pacific livery as well as various passenger cars that were typical of the type used in the bygone era of train travel in this country. This historic train will be an anchor piece to draw additional exhibits and vendors for the citywide event, sponsored by the Colfax Chamber of Commerce. California Operation Lifesaver will again partner and participate with the railroad heritage society in the Colfax Railroad Days event. Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit organization that offers rail safety awareness programs in communities and public schools. Kids and adults can ride historic railroad equipment while learning the importance of railroad safety. For more information on the train’s visit to Colfax, call Frost at 305-2145. - Staff report
