Jr. Falcons split with Rio Linda
Close out regular season Saturday in Stockton
Colfax’s Jr. Falcons will close out their regular season this Saturday with away games at St. Mary’s of Stockton. The playoffs for the Jr. Falcon Midgets and Jr. Midgets squads then begin on Oct. 27.
In last week’s games, Colfax and Rio Linda split their four games played at Colfax High. Here’s a recap:
Rio Linda Jr. Peewees 31, Colfax 6 – Down 26-0, Colfax recovered a fumble at its 38. From there, Colfax went on a 7-play drive ending with quarterback Joshua Shuttleworth’s lateral to Luke Green who raced 51 yards for the score. A key block by Sean Divine on a fourth and 11 broke Green loose for 16 yards and kept the drive alive. Jedidiah Vculek was in the thick of the defense with 10 tackles. Cameron Austin, Teavan Nickerson and Divine had multiple stops. Green and Caleb Howard recovered fumbles.
PeeWees: Rio Linda 25, Colfax 0 – The Junior Knights showed why they are undefeated as they kept Colfax off the scoreboard. They have given up only 19 points all season. Nick Nissen led the defense with 10 tackles, followed by Logan Wilkins with eight and Alex Weir with and Nathan Searcy with six each. Also playing well were Ryan Donovan, Travyn Heimann, Gannon Brothers, Wiley Drummond, John Beckman and Jacob Stuck.
Junior Midgets: Colfax 28, Rio Linda 24 – Colfax started the scoring early as a Ryland Heimann to Dawson Hurst 45-yard pass play made the score 6-0. Rio Linda countered and led 16-6, but Colfax scored again on a 40-yard, 3-play drive with Heimann passing 7-yards to Garren O’Keefe. O’Keefe converted to close the score to 16-14. The Jr. Falcons scored again on another 40-yard drive in three plays with Heimann hitting Ahrens on a 31-yard strike. Colfax ate up most of the 3rd quarter with a 76-yard, 11-play drive, ending with Ahrens running in from 5 yards. Down by a 28-24 score, the Knights started a drive but Ahrens intercepted a pass at his 39-yard line with 27 seconds remaining to seal the win. Leading the defense were Wil Besler with 8 tackles. Troy Little, Colton Reeves Angelo Margherita, Michael O’Neill, Justin Ambrose, Luke Baggett and Jake Green also played well.
Midgets: Colfax 24, Rio Linda 6 – Colfax opened the scoring on a 70-yard, 7-play drive with Dallan Trentman scoring from the 2. Jack Beeman’s conversion gave Colfax an 8-0 lead. In the third quarter, Colfax started a 63-yard drive that ended five plays later with Marc Avila scoring from 19 yards out. Beeman’s conversion made it 16-0 Colfax. The Junior Falcons closed their scoring in the fourth quarter on a 6-play, 45-yard drive that ended with Avila scoring on a 31-yard run. Beeman’s conversion made it 24-0. Luke Reed, Zane McDade, Anthony Griggs, Dylan Mayo, Christian Shelly and
Jaycob LaBrecque led a stifling defense. Mason Hurst and J.T. Hobbs each had an interception, Trentman recovered a fumble, and Shelly and LeBrecque each added a sack.
