After taking it on the chin in a first-round loss to a talent-laden Del Oro High School team, the Colfax JV boys basketball team rebounded last weekend for a pair of wins to take home consolation honors at the Del Oro tournament. The Falcons had the unenviable task of drawing host Del Oro in the opening round on Dec. 15. After falling behind 38-21 at halftime, Colfax couldn’t make up any ground in the second half and eventually fell by a 73-44 count. Cole Joyce’s 13 points, 10 from Jordan Balser, nine by Kevin Zachman and eight from Michael Wilson led Colfax’s offense. Colfax bounced back on Friday afternoon for a 61-21 rout of Paradise. All nine Colfax players found the scoring column, led by Dave Campbell with 13 points, Wilson with 12, Balser with nine, and Joyce with eight points. Also scoring were Baldoni with six, Blake Rawlings with four, and Chris Harshman, Adam Guiterrez and Zachman with three points each. In the consolation final, the Falcons built a 10-point lead by halftime and steadily pulled away in a 54-36 triumph over Whitney. Baldoni pumped in 17 points to spark the win, while Campbell chipped in with 14. Zachman was next for Colfax with eight. The scoring was completed by Balser with seven points, Joyce with five and Wilson with three. Colfax, 5-2 on the season and which played at Sutter last night, will be at Bret Harte next Tuesday with JV game time at 4:30 p.m. In an earlier non-league game on Dec. 13, 17 points by Baldoni and 14 from Zachman led the Falcons to a 62-24 win over Incline.
