Just like their varsity counterparts, the Colfax High Frosh and JV football teams will open their 2010 seasons this Friday with away games at El Camino.
The Frosh will kickoff against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. at Abbott Field located on the El Camino campus. The JVs will then follow at 5:30 p.m. before the varsity teams square off to complete the tripleheader at 7:30.
The tripleheader for Friday is part of the CIF “Zero Week” format which is being used by a high percentage of schools to kickoff the football season for the first time prior to the Labor Day weekend.
Justin Heimann moves from a post as a long time varsity assistant to take the JV reins this season. He’ll be assisted by Marc Corro, Wyatt Covich, Josh Ross, C.J. Topper and Mike Pitz.
The Falcons JVs will be looking for defensive leadership from linebackers Austin Perry, Tim Stuck, and freshman Jack Baldoni. Top down lineman on the defensive front include Chris Cano and Cody Baugh.
On offense, Clay Sutherland will man the quarterback position with Henry Freer and Perry expected to carry much of the offensive rushing load. Matt Petersen and Nemo Bailey are expected to be the main pass receivers.
Bob Luke’s frosh team is coming off an overall good showing from last week’s scrimmage at Oak Ridge. Assisting Luke will be coaches Wayne Thomas, Ryan Rawlins, Kyle Stowers, Todd Stowers and Jay Bernke.
Luke has tagged Michael Wilson has the team’s starting quarterback. Running backs to keep an eye include Bailey Bean, Chauncey Trentman and Tannker Kane. On defense the team leaders should be linebacker Jake Mederios and nose guard Mario Margarita.
