Colfax High’s JV football team improved to 2-0 on the young season by rallying in the fourth quarter for a 24-21 win at El Camino last Friday afternoon. Colfax quarterback Logan Hurst capped what proved to be the game-winning drive by running over a quarterback keeper from four yards away with 7:23 left in the game to wipe out what had been a 21-18 El Camino lead. The key play on drive was a 23-yard pass from Hurst to Sam LaHaie. Following the go-ahead touchdown, the Falcons’ defense had to come up with two stops against the Eagles, the final coming when Brian Little sacked the El Camino quarterback on fourth down with just under two minutes to play. Hurst also found Marcus Jackson on a 70-yard scoring pass earlier in the game. Also playing well for the Falcons were LaHaie , Jeromy Cabodi, Pat Beninga and Dalton Bannister. The Falcons figure to get a tough test on Friday when they play at Union Mine. Union Mine’s JVs, 1-0-1, defeated El Camino 31-14 two weeks ago and tied Bear River, 6-6, last Friday. Colfax Frosh 28, El Camino 22 -- Matt Blackburn snagged a touchdown pass from Matt Harshman and fullback Beau Baggett ran for three more scores as the Falcons outlasted the Eagles for their first win of the year. Top defensive players for the Falcons included Baggett, Blackburn, Harshman and Spencer Gutierrez. Colfax, 1-1, will play at River Valley, 1-0, at 5:30 p.m. today in Yuba City. River Valley is coming off a 22-0 season-opening win over Central Valley of the North Section last week.
