For the second straight season, the Pioneer Valley League girls soccer championship will reside in Colfax. Thanks to a three-goal second-half flurry Tuesday afternoon at home, the Lady Falcons wrapped up their consecutive outright PVL flag by handing visiting Center a 4-0 setback. The Colfax win, coupled with Lincoln’s 1-1 tie with Foothill and Bear River’s 2-1 loss to Placer, allowed the Lady Falcons to cinch the league title with two matches remaining. Colfax (7-0-1) has totaled 22 points, while second-place Lincoln (4-2-2) with 14 points and Bear River (3-3-2) with 11 points can’t overtake the Lady Falcons regardless of what happens in Colfax’s final two matches. Handling Colfax’s offense on Tuesday were Katy Thomas with a pair of scores and Brittany Thomas and Celeena Wall with one goal apiece. Goal keeper Michaelynn Hoffman and Iona Lofrano also played for the winners. Another three-goal barrage in the second half helped spark the Colfax past Placer, 4-0, last Thursday night in Auburn and cinch a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III playoff berth. Leading 1-0 at halftime following Lofrano’s unassisted goal in the first half, Colfax flexed its muscles over the last 45 minutes with Katy Thomas scoring a pair of back-to-back goals following assists by Celeena Wall and Kelly Harris. The Lady Falcons completed the shutout on a goal from Emilee Klug. Also playing well for the Lady Falcons were Kate Bianchi and Christina Keyes. The Colfax girls will host Bear River tonight under the lights at 6 p.m. Next Tuesday the Lady Falcons play at Lincoln in another night game that will begin at 7:15 p.m. The CIF Div. III playoffs begins with first-round games on May 10. Teams receiving first-round byes will not play until May 15. Three teams each from the PVL, Solano County Athletic League, Capital Athletic League and Tri-Counties Conference will form the Div. III playoffs. Colfax JV 5, Placer 0 – Marissa Pontius scored two goals as the Lady Falcon JVs blanked Placer to push their PVL record to 6-0-1. Meghan Pistolesi, Celine Ford and Mackenzy Thilmony all added one goal apiece for the winners. Earlier, Colfax’s JVs defeated Foothill, 7-0, with Pontius scoring three goals and Ford a pair.
