Lady Falcons volleyball looks for strong finish

-A +A
A strong finish by the Colfax High girls volleyball team looks to figure in how the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff brackets will shape up for the Lady Falcons. On Monday night, the Falcons swept past Center’s Cougars 25-12, 25-14, 25-14 to raise its Pioneer Valley League record to 6-2. The win came on the heels of the Lady Falcons losing three straight 25-23 matches to league leading Placer last Wednesday. The close loss to Placer, in a game where the Lady Falcons could have drawn even with the Hillmen in the PVL standings, stung even more earlier this week when Bear River hit the league leaders with their first loss of the season. That put last night’s Colfax-Bear River match at a premium for seeding in the Div. IV playoffs which will begin Nov. 9. Colfax closes its PVL slate Monday at Lincoln. In the win over Center, Iona Lofrano had 12 kills while Hailey Biles dished out 26 assists and served up four aces. Kassidy Guttierrez also turned in a strong effort by contributing four kills and 11 digs. Ashley Scott also recorded 21 digs for the Falcons. In the tough match against Placer, freshman Maddie Ittner played well with six blocks and three kills. Biles came up with 11 digs and five blocks to go with 26 assists. Lofrano finished with 11 kills and Maggie Aubuchon added six blocks.
