It appears that Colfax High girls soccer team is taking to the liking of pre-season soccer tournaments. For the second time in three weeks, the Lady Falcons bagged a tournament championship as Colfax defeated Pioneer Valley League foe Placer, 1-0, in the championship match of last weekend’s Cal Spring Classic tournament held in Woodland. The tourney win by the Lady Falcons follows a sweep of opponents in the recent Buff Cup in Manteca that also captured by the Colfax girls. The Colfax-Placer match, which was probably a preview of the two teams’ forthcoming PVL matches, was tight all the way and was decided in the 11th minute on a goal from Celeena Wall. Colfax dominated the match by taking 25 shots on goal. In another close tourney match, Iona Lofrano’s penalty kick goal in the first half was the difference in a 1-0 win over Div. I opponent Vacaville. Lofrano also had a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Justin-Siena of Napa, while Kelly Harris had two goals in a 5-0 win over River Valley of Yuba City. Sparking Colfax’s strong defense in the tournament were the efforts of Kate Bianchi, Sophia Satterlee, Brittany Thomas, Savannah Neumann, Christina Keyes and goalie Michallynn Hoffman. Colfax opens PVL action next Thursday by hosting Foothill. The Lady Falcons then post Placer on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
