Many thanks to special volunteer

One young gentleman, a member of the Lions Club, graciously volunteered at the Giovanni’s Employee Benefit held Sunday, Dec. 12 at Sierra Vista Community Center. I didn’t catch his name, but I had to point out that his volunteerism went above and beyond the call of duty. Each time I spotted him throughout the event, he appeared to be busy doing something to help until the last table and chair was put away. But what really took this humanitarian to another level was when he appeared at 9 a.m. the next morning to help with the final cleanup. And trust me; there was plenty to do, including filling up a one-ton truck with garbage generated from the spaghetti feed and bar. He also didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d drive over and unload the bar and tables borrowed from Shady Glen Estates. Since the fire destroyed Giovanni’s at Shady Glen, I have seen an enormous amount of generosity — enough to overwhelm me — but this young man really moved my heart, soul and spirit. Upon thanking him for his kindness, I asked who he was. “I live nearby, and thought you could use a hand,” he responded. Again, “Who is this guy?” I still didn’t get his name, but I know that with neighbors like that in a community like this, I never want to leave Colfax! In closing, I’d like to mention that the benefit played out like a beautifully written song. Thanks to everyone who contributed (and you know who you are). Words cannot express my gratitude. I will forever be changed by the incredible experience of working so intimately with the media, the Core Committee members and at the same time being one of Giovanni’s employees who found themselves so tragically unemployed. I am truly blessed to be a part of the Giovanni’s Family and the Colfax community. Sarah Murphy, Colfax
