Martello receives Gebhardt Award at Clinic of Champions
Each year the Max Miller Clinic of Champions football clinic held in Reno offers a variety of new insight for coaches through speakers, coaching seminars, clinics and videos. Now in its 33rd year, the Clinic of Champions draws over 1,000 coaches each year.
Hosted by longtime Sacramento area football coach Max Miller, now the head coach at Rio Americano High, in 2010, the clinic evolved into the Michael D. Gebhardt Coaches Award in memory of former Mesa Verde coach and athletic director Mike Gebhardt. The award goes to the coach that has evoked the spirit, sportsmanship and dedication that Gebhardt showed during his long tenure at Mesa Verde.
At the most recent Reno coaches clinic, the 2012 Gebhardt was awarded to Colfax High football coach Tony Martello. Martello now joins 2010 winner Terry Logue of Bear River and 2011 winner Ron Barney of Mesa Verde.
"Tony has done a great job at Colfax," said Miller. "For a small school, he has his team at or near the top every year. It was an honor to give Tony the award this year."
Martello has coached at Colfax for 17 seasons where his record is 159-40-2. His teams have won or shared in 12 league titles and have captured three CIF section crowns.
