Men’s softball classic to take place Aug. 25-28 A total of 10 teams will throw their hats into the ring during the 46th annual Colfax Recreation Association Men’s Softball Classic Aug. 25-28 at Living War Memorial Park. Entries this season include the Nevada County Bulldogs, Grass Valley; Anything Green, Grass Valley; Roseville Eagles, Roseville; Walker’s Brewers, Auburn; Nor Cal Merchants, Stockton; Nevada Softball, Reno; East Bay Bashers, Hayward; Les Eva All-Stars, Grass Valley; Oroville Braves, Oroville; and the Wine Dogs, Sonoma. In addition to the full weekend of softball, the Recreation Association will also induct a new class of players into the tournament’s Hall of Fame. The induction will take place at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27. This year’s entries include Skip Cassulo, Jerry Rich, Bob Woods, Dave O’Hair, Chili Davis, Darrin Ladd, Mike Reid, Paul Carlton, Dave Bostick, Larry Machado, Joel Manfredi, Keith Frye, Ron Blaine, Daryl Banks, Bruce Porter, Billy Davis, Mike “Otto” Thill and Troy Dutra. The Nevada County Bulldogs have won the last two tournaments. In winning those back-to-back crowns, the Bulldogs joined Perfect Game (2007-08) and several other repeat champions over the years, including the Colfax Fireballs (1966-68, 1976-77, 1981-82 and 1986-87), Ball Stars (1988-89), Sutherland Union Oil (1974-75), Reno Raiders (1990-92) and J&P Sportsmen (2001-02).
