AUBURN CA - Placer County Sheriff's Office searchers located the body Tuesday of a Clipper Gap man missing since Sunday evening. Gary Howe, 71, was last seen around 5 p.m. Sunday, touching off a three-day search that ended Tuesday morning with the discovery of his body within a half-mile of his Clipper Gap home. The discovery was made at 9:40 a.m. but release of the information was delayed until the afternoon as authorities attempted to make contact with his next of kin, Placer County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dena Erwin said. Howe suffered from dementia and had vision problems. His body was found in a steep, heavily wooded area, Erwin said. A ground and air search in the Clipper Gap area couldn't locate Howe on Monday. The search Tuesday was bolstered by K-9 and horse teams. Fifty searchers were combing the Clipper Gap area when the body was discovered. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, Erwin said.
