Mix things up with the Chamber of Commerce
By: LindaLou Haines
Dottie?s Café, 38 N. Main, is celebrating its first anniversary in business by hosting a Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today. Chamber mixers are open to everyone in the community ? businesses and other interested Colfax residents. Mixers are a way to informally meet your local business owners and staff and to learn more about who is selling what and providing what services to the community. It?s like a party with a purpose because we mix and mingle while enjoying yummy snacks. Speaking of snacks: At Dottie?s this time, chef and co-owner Todd Hepler is doing up some new hors d?oeuvres and many of his signature ones that are so popular. Co-owner Shannon Mackey, Todd?s wife, will co-host the mixer. Cost for CACC mixers is $5 for chamber members and $7 for non-members. That buys you a beverage and snacks. For more information on mixers, call the Chamber 346-8888. And, a big congratulations to Todd and Shannon for a successful first year of business in Colfax offering a quality lunch and dinner restaurant right on Main Street. Their hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Sunday?s menu is a brunch, which combines the best of a special breakfast and luncheon. Also, when the café is closed Sunday evenings, the space is available for private parties. Call 346-2828. Did you remember Mother?s Day is this Sunday? If you haven?t gotten a special gift for your special mom, Colfax shops offer many unique gift ideas. For gifts, try Connie?s Creative Corner, 55 Main St. at Church Sreet. The boutique has a lot of jewelry, with ?possibly the largest selection in town, and other items that would be perfect for any mother,? said Bernice Lein, one of the artists with one-of-a-kind items on display at the gallery/boutique. Creative Corner is a co-op of local artists, who share this storefront to encourage each other in their artistic pursuits and to invite locals to view and buy their work. They are open seven days: noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with Tuesdays open till the Colfax Library across the street closes at 7 p.m.; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The boutique was the creative idea of Connie Heilaman, owner of Connie?s Decors Interior Design with a showroom in the same building at 15 W. Church St. Heilaman opened the boutique in time for the Christmas shopping season in October 2010. And, with a dedicated group of artists and crafts folks, the shop continues to serve the artists and the community. So, stop in now and get that special gift for Mother.
