Mowbray, Newman qualify for Masters

Mowbray, Newman qualify for Masters David Mowbray and Maddi Newman were Colfax High?s lone qualifiers to this week?s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters track and field meet set for today and Friday at Elk Grove High School. Mowbray ran a time of 51.03 to finish in sixth place in the 400 meter run at last week?s CIF Div. II-III divisional meet at Bella Vista. Newman, meanwhile, placed 5th in the girls 800 meters in a time of 2:20.26. Long jumper David Wood is an alternate for the Masters meet. Wood finished in ninth place with a leap of 19 feet 10 inches. Colfax High?s 4x100 relay team didn?t qualify for the Masters meet but posted a season-best time of 44.73 seconds. Making up the quartet were Mowbray, Adam Allen, Austin Ames and Chris Walton. Other marks posted by Colfax athletes included Michael Lerner going 102-6 in the discus and Mario Margherita with 38-11 in the shot put. Colfax girls? marks were posted by Kailey Wright at 80 feet in the discus and Madi Ittner in the shot put, 30 feet, six inches. Netters vie at CIF tourney Colfax High had tennis players compete recently in the CIF Section tournament held at Oak Park in Stockton. The mixed doubles team of Chris Harshman and Rachel Fischer defeated San Juan's Sam Collins and Julie Davis, 6-1 6-2, in the first round but were eliminated by eventual section champions Shae Beam and Ian Fitzgerald of Escalon, 1-6 1-6. In girls doubles, No. 1 seeds Aspen Fairchild and Justine Hanson of Colfax defeated Ali and Jackey Stokes of Modesto Christian 6-2 6-4. In the semifinal match, they lost to River City's Sarah Yang and Cindy Oseguera 3-6 6-2 6-7.
