Colfax High?s tennis team made the long trek to Riverbank Monday afternoon and the Falcons returned home with a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff victory.
Playing the host Bruins who were the Trans Valley League?s No. 2 team, the Falcons picked up two key wins in boys and girls doubles to eke out a 5-4 first-round win.
?It was tight all the way,? said Colfax coach Paul Phillips. ?Our doubles teams really came through for us.?
Colfax trailed 2-0 after losing the top two boys singles matches but the Falcons picked up key wins from the No. 1 boys doubles tandem of John Bianchi and Eric Graves and the No. 2 doubles squad of Connor Havens and Chris Harshman.
Bianchi and Graves downed Riverbank?s Juan Arfaro and Nick Campbell, 6-3, 6-2, while Havens and Harshman topped Ernic Velasco and Javior Baltazar, 6-0, 6-1.
In girls doubles, Colfax?s No. 2 team of Evie Sweet and McClaren Unholz picked up a vital win by defeating Carolina Suhauf and Hermelinda Soto, 6-1, 6-0.
Colfax was slated to play West Campus, the No. 1 Golden Empire League team, in the second round.
