Oak Ridge girls, Colfax boys draw No. 1 seeds

Section basketball playoffs open Tuesday night

The Sac-Joaquin Section released its basketball playoff brackets Sunday afternoon, setting the schedule for the final few weeks of the hoops season. The Oak Ridge girls are the top seed in the Division I tournament, and they will host No. 16 Nevada Union when girls play begins Thursday night at 7 p.m. Napa is the No. 2 seed in the D-I girls field. The Division I girls begin play Thursday at host school sites, and then move to neutral sites beginning with the second round Saturday. The Woodcreek girls drew the No. 5 slot in the D-II tourney, and will host No. 12 Pitman (Turlock) in Tuesday's opener. Granite Bay sits at No. 6 and will welcome No. 11 River City. St. Francis and Bella Vista are the top two seeds in the D-II girls tourney. The Division II, III, IV and V girls tournaments open at host sites Tuesday and Thursday for the first two rounds before moving to neutral sites at the semifinal level. Del Oro is the second-seeded team in the D-III girls bracket, and the Lady Eagles are set to host No. 15 Galt Tuesday night. No. 9 Vista del Lago will visit No. 8 Natomas for its opener. St. Mary's (Stockton) is the top D-III girls seed. No. 3 Colfax will host No. 14 San Juan to open the D-IV girls tournament, and No. 5 Bear River entertains No. 12 Ripon. The D-IV top seed is Modesto Christian. Bradshaw Christian is the top seed in girls D-V play, where No. 9 Valley Christian (Roseville) will travel to Auburn to take on No. 8 Forest Lake Christian Tuesday night. On the boys side, Franklin (Elk Grove) is the top seed in D-I, with Merced seeded second. Oak Ridge is the 10th seed and will be on the road at 7 p.m. Friday night when the boys' tourney tips off. The Trojans will be in Modesto to take on Grace Davis. The Division I boys tournament opens at host sites Friday night before moving to neutral sites beginning with next Tuesday's second round. Woodcreek is the second seed in D-II, and the Timberwolves will host No. 15 Folsom, while No. 4 Oakmont hosts No. 13 Bear Creek and No. 6 Rocklin hosts No. 11 Grant in other D-II games. Fairfield is the top seed in the D-II bracket. The Division II, III, IV and V boys tournaments open with games at host sites of the higher seeded teams Wednesday and Friday before moving to neutral sites the second week for the semifinals and finals. Vista del Lago takes the second spot in the D-III tourney, and will entertain No. 15 Sonora Wednesday night. Del Oro sits at No. 3, where the Golden Eagles welcome No. 14 Sierra. D-III No. 8 Lincoln hosts ninth-seeded Foothill, hoping to earn a second-round shot at D-III No. 1 Sacramento High. Placer is the No. 10 seed in D-III, and the Hillmen are at No. 7 Manteca Wednesday. Colfax is the top seed in the D-IV boys tourney. The Falcons host No. 16 Ripon in the opener. One team to watch in the D-IV field is Modesto Christian, the No. 3 seed in this season's bracket. Roseville's Valley Christian Academy is the No. 4 seed in Division V. The Lions host Big Valley Christian, the 13th seed, Wednesday night. Antelope's Global Youth Charter is the No. 8 seed and hosts New Life Christian, while No. 10 Forest Lake Christian is at No. 7 Sacramento Adventist. Victory Christian is the top seed in D-V, with defending champion Bradshaw Christian sitting at No. 3.
