Oakmont baseball downs Del Oro, Colfax tennis beats Mesa Verde

Oakmont tagged Del Oro starter Matt Terrien for five runs in the first two innings and never looked back, beating the Golden Eagles 10-4 Monday afternoon in a Sierra Foothill League game in Roseville. Terrien gave up seven runs on five hits in four innings in the loss. He walked four, hit one batter and struck out one. The Vikings led 5-0 after two innings before the Eagles scored their first runs in the top of the third. Oakmont (7-5, 2-2 SFL) put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth inning. Our offense tried to come back, but then they'd just get a couple more runs, Del Oro head coach Brett Lachemann said of the Vikings. Matt Leak went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Del Oro. Jake Bews went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Oakmont starter Alex Brandt allowed three runs in five strong innings. He scattered six hits, walked one and recorded seven of the Vikings' 10 strikeouts. Del Oro (4-9, 2-2 SFL) hosts Granite Bay Wednesday at 4 p.m. Oakmont travels to Woodcreek. Other highlights for the Falcons included Caitlin Hanson and Jen Menary at No. 1 girls doubles, who remained undefeated with a 10-7 win. Amanda Timmerman and Courtney Turner teamed up to win 10-6 at No. 2 doubles. Siblings Christy and Scott Johnston fell 10-8 in a close mixed doubles match.
