Public not treated with respect

-A +A
Wednesday, July 11, I went to my first City Council meeting in Colfax. I observed the council members patting themselves on the back for their wonderful performance solving the sewer problem. They also lavished complements on the City Manager, telling him they could not have done it with him. I thought what great people. They give each other total attention, smiles, eye contact and treated each other with deference and respect. However, when it was time for the public comment a whole new city council presented itself. Eyes were diverted from the speaker to the floors, walls, the counter in front of them. Rarely did they look up. These are people who are voted into office by the residents of Colfax and yet they treat the public so disrespectfully. Why do they keep getting voted in?
