Volunteers helped pack boxes last week prior to the Meadow Vista Christmas Project distribution of food and toys for area needy over the weekend.
One adult volunteers at the Christmas Project was Mary Hinkle, whose mother was a founding member of the Friendly Neighbors Club. “In 1944, my mother and five other women gathered in a one room school house, where the fire station in Meadow Vista now sits, to address how they could assist their neighbors in need,” Hinkle said.
From that meeting, the non-profit organization was born and in 1949 the Christmas Basket program started a tradition of helping serving families.
