Safe energy is important

-A +A
Nuclear energy is unsafe, risky, and stays radioactive for thousands of years. Let’s make sure if the government allocates the proposed $36 billion to nuclear energy, it’s to ensure the safety of existing plants.  Underground sites to dispose of these uranium rods are filling up within months. Because of the limited space to store, it limits the amount of nuclear fuel we can use per year.  It’s time we start funding safer more environmentally friendly forms of energy, including wind, water, and solar. Customers are given the option of wind, water, solar but are not given the option of nuclear power because they know how unpopular it is, and for good reason. We need to start thinking about our future, and our children’s future, long term and not just right now. After, what happened in Japan, how could the United States take such risks with its people and economy? Gretchen Cantrell, Rocklin
