Six area high school basketball teams will host first-round games this week as the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs get underway. The section released brackets Sunday for the girls, who kick things off Tuesday, and boys, who start Wednesday. In girls action, Del Oro, Colfax, Bear River and Forest Lake Christian all earned first-round home games, while the Del Oro and Colfax boys squads also earned the right to host openers. The Del Oro girls (23-4) earned the No. 2 seed in Division III and will take on No. 15 Galt in Loomis Tuesday night after wrapping up another undefeated Sierra Foothill League campaign last week. The Warriors (13-14) finished fifth in the competitive Sierra Valley Conference. In Division IV action, No. 3 Colfax will host No. 14 San Juan while No. 5 Bear River entertains No. 12 Ripon in a rematch of the 2007 section championship, which the Bruins won handily. The Falcons (16-11) were runner-up in the Pioneer Valley League, while the Spartans (13-13) tied for second in the Golden Empire League. Bear River (19-6) finished third in the PVL. The Indians (16-10) were runner-up in the Trans Valley League. In Division V, No. 8 Forest Lake Christian hosts No. 9 Big Valley Christian and No. 13 Foresthill travels to No. 4 Big Valley Christian. The Falcons (15-9) finished third in the Central Valley Christian League. They’ll face Valley Christian (16-8), the Sacramento Metro League runner-up. The Wildfires (10-8) benefited from the strength of the CVCL schedule, but will open the playoffs in Modesto against the Lions (21-5), who finished second in the Harvest Christian League despite a 16-2 record. In Division III boys openers Wednesday night, No. 3 Del Oro takes on No. 14 Sierra while No. 10 Placer visits No. 7 Manteca. The Golden Eagles (17-8) tied for third in the loaded SFL and hope to begin another deep playoff run that ended in the section final last season. The Timberwolves (18-8) were second in the Valley Oak League. The Hillmen (15-10), who have thrived on the road, visit the Valley Oak champion Buffaloes (22-5). Top seed Colfax (21-4), the PVL champion, will entertain No. 16 Ripon (13-14) in a Division IV matchup. In Division V, No. 10 Forest Lake Christian (12-11) visits No. 7 Sacramento Adventist (14-7).
