Early Monday morning a passing motorist reported a possible sewage spill at the lift station at 1900 S. Canyon Way near the Interstate 80 overpass. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office received the call around 7:30 a.m., City Manager Bruce Kranz reported. “We got out there really quick and stopped the flow before 8 a.m.,” he said. City employees worked throughout the day to clean up the spill, which flowed into the small creek adjacent to the roadway. Kranz is hopeful the project engineer, who is scheduled to be in Colfax on Wednesday, will be able to determine the cause of the spill. “Since the construction site at Lift Station 5 has yet to be accepted by the city from the contractor,” Kranz explained, “all matters concerning the spill are still under review.” It might take several days to determine what happened, Kranz added.  The station is one of four existing lift stations being upgraded with funds from a $3.6 million commitment given to the city from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
