The Colfax High soccer team set out Wednesday night to try to stay hot on a five-game road trip with a win that would go a long way in tightening up the Pioneer Valley League soccer race.
The Falcons were almost halfway home through their PVL away swing on Monday night when Colfax ventured to Lake of the Pines and returned home with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bear River.
Earlier last week, Colfax trekked to Center and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Cougars. Those two Colfax wins gave the Falcons a 3-1-1 league record going into last night’s scheduled match at league-leading Lincoln (5-0-0).
“Obviously it’s a big match,” said Colfax coach Jim Logan. “It was close the last time we played so we’ll see how it goes down there.”
Following the match at Lincoln, Colfax will stay on the road with matches set next Monday at Foothill and next Wednesday night at Placer. The Falcons then end their PVL season with home matches versus Center on Oct. 22 and Bear River on Oct. 24.
In the win at Bear River, Jacob Ritchey’s second-half goal snapped a 0-0 halftime tie. Colfax had 20 shots on goal during the match. Falcons goalie Jeff Mulkin was credited with three saves.
Last week’s win at Center saw the Falcons receive goals from Ben Rooker and Cameron Ford. Ford also added an assist for the winners, while Josh Partin also played well.
Colfax JVs blank Bruins – Colfax’s JV team improved to 4-0-1 in PVL matches with a 3-0 win at Bear River. Jacob Smith, Scott Irons and Scott Mosier all scored goals for the Falcons. Earlier, Colfax and Center tied 1-1, with Mosier tallying the Falcons’ goal.
